Student opportunities

03 November 2011

The Financial Services sector is undergoing a huge transformation at the moment, the effects of which will emerge in January 2013. The industry will hopefully be in a position to truly excel and offer high quality, professional services across a wide range of firms rather than just a minority.

To get to that point though, large numbers of advisers are predicted to leave the industry, leaving both their clients and staff in the lurch.

We are working to raise awareness of these issues so clients know what their options are should this happen to them  and so they don't fall foul of believing that the one option put in front of them need be the only option.

What happens to their staff though? This is harder to answer because unfortunately legacy firms didn't require or encourage employees to attain qualifications or improve their knowledge. In an age when qualification standards have become more important, those without such knowledge will struggle to displace those who are striving to better themselves.

This leaves a big gap: an ever increasing number of clients needing advice, but fewer individuals able to assist them.

The opportunity

Here at Moore Stephens Financial Services we believe in growing the next generation of financial planners. That might be client facing advisers or highly skilled technical staff in the office. We have a proven track record of success in this area and if we could have one legacy, other than happy clients, it would be to build a stable of highly competent staff who are regarded as a centre of excellence in both the Eastern region and the rest of the country.

How can we achieve this?

With the help of the Chartered Insurance Institute we are presenting at a number of universities and schools across the region promoting a career in financial services generally, but also and more specifically, a career with us at Moore Stephens Financial Services.

What do we offer?

We will consider all options from the following:

Work experience - for anyone who wants to gain some short term experience of our industry in the holidays. The advantages are there are no commitments and you gain hands on experience of what we actually do. Hopefully this will whet your appetite for future placements.

Internships - for anyone who needs to take a year in industry as part of their degree course. We offer individuals the chance to work for us for a year to experience a wide range of roles, designed to give a full flavour of how a long term career could develop. This is also a great opportunity to test your all round skills; life skills as well as brainpower are essential to ensure you fit in with the team and become an asset to us.

Don't forget, either of the options above could lead to a long term relationship between us if we see you as someone we would like to offer a permanent position to when you complete your studies.

Graduate/school leaver placements - for anyone who has completed a set of qualifications and is looking for a career, we offer placements at varying levels dependent upon your skills, aptitude and interest. These placements are carefully designed to train all candidates through to Chartered Financial Planner status. This is the pinnacle of our industry and as a Chartered firm, is something of a pre-requisite rather than a nice to have.

We don't set minimum criteria, all we ask is that you watch our animation, read our recruitment pages and ask yourself if you think you are ready to fill the gap in our industry.

We are a small, yet growing firm and so places are limited. We want to find the best candidates available to enhance our firm and our industry, so if any of these opportunities sound right for you, please get in touch at enquiry@msfs.co.uk.

We look forward to hearing from you.
