What is the Price of Life - The Price of Toilet Rolls?

15 February 2012

A surprising statement, perhaps... What does life have to do with toilet rolls? Well the answer lies in perception.

Imagine you or your spouse are the homemaker, responsible for the day to day running of the home and family.

Equally you or your spouse may be the main breadwinner, responsible for going to work every day to earn the money to support the home and the family.

In that scenario both roles are important, but in our experience only the latter is regularly valued. By that we mean that many breadwinners are supported by schemes to provide lump sum payments in the event of premature death or it may be that you have personally taken out life assurance on the life of the breadwinner to repay the mortgage should the worst happen.

Too few people consider who will run the household and support the family should it be the homemaker who suffers premature death. It is often ignored that the breadwinner will not only be faced with a devastating situation, but this will be compounded by a decision to potentially change working hours or employ someone to help bring up the family and run the home.

At this time, it is vital to minimize disruption and try to maintain as much stability as possible for the sake of your family. It may not be feasible or affordable to change the breadwinner’s hours or employ someone else. Family and friends may offer to help, but how reliable is this long term?

For the cost of a family pack of toilet rolls, it is possible to take out a policy on the life of the homemaker, which produces an annual income for as long as is needed. This income could provide the support needed to maintain the home and assist with childcare without disrupting every facet of life that you had become accustomed to.

All costs are dependant upon the age, sex and term required, but the point being that it is not unaffordable to take out such insurance.

Unlike the toilet rolls, you may never need to call upon it, but piece of mind doesn’t have to cost much.
